To register: Henstudio@cox.net Join Helen Shafer Garcia for a four-day workshop in and around Dixon, New Mexico located in the northern highlands between Taos and Santa Fe. This is a casual, rural area with few big city amenities. Dixon is nestled in the Embudo Valley long known for its pastoral beauty. Our trip will include 4 workshop days with Helen along with tours of artist's studios and homes. You'll stay in recommended bed and breakfast inns in Dixon. The workshops will be located in various plein air scenic spots along with studio time. One tour highlight will be a plein air at a local working organic apple farm. Helen's workshop will concentrate on dropped-in watercolor methods and techniques using the local scenery for inspiration. ITINERARY September 12 - Arrive in Dixon-Rio Embudo Wine and Cheese

RESERVATION WE REQUIRE A $240.00 DEPOSIT BY JULY 30, 2010 All travel, rental car, food and lodging costs and reservations are the responsibility of each artist. Not included are: transfers to and from airports, lunch and dinner, personal items such as individual journaling and art supplies, wine, liquors, valet and laundry charges and other items not specifically mentioned as included. The Dixon Tour Directors reserve the right to limit the number of attendees based upon factors critical to the smooth functioning of the tour. TRAVEL- We suggest travel on Southwest Airlines to Albuquerque, New Mexico arriving September 12th prior to 11:00 a.m. For those arriving at that location and time, we will gather together with our respective rental cars for the trip to Dixon. ACCOMODATIONS--- There are several bed and breakfast inns in Dixon. These are available on a first come basis. The earlier you book your reservation the more likely you will have first choice in selecting lodging. Further away in Taos, are multiple choices in motels should the bed and breakfast inns become unavailable in Dixon. Taos is a 45 minute drive from Dixon. PARTIAL LISTING OF DIXON AREA LODGING
RESTAURANTS- There are a limited number of local food establishments. In Dixon, the local co-op sells hot tamales, burritos and sandwiches for lunch. A new restaurant is scheduled to open in time for our art tour and will be available for lunch and dinners. A short drive to Espanola offers many fast food and good Mexican restaurants. A restaurant, the Sugar Nymphs Bistro, in nearby Penasco, is a very good dinner spot (not open on Monday and Tuesdays.) Note: some plein air locations may include walking on uneven ground. Most locations will be available by car. Although highly unlikely, the tour may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. If cancelled, the entire amount paid will be refunded within fourteen days after the tour's cancellation.
Please join artists Jane LaFazio, Lynn Leahy, Laurie Mika and Helen Shafer-Garcia for an incredible week of inspiration and art-making during holy week in San Miguel de Allende. Here is your opportunity to combine creativity and to explore the magic that is San Miguel along with other kindred spirits. We chose this week in particular because of its significance as holy week. Friday night is Night of the Altars, also known as Our Lady of Sorrows and Friday of Dolores. This is the evening where residents open up their homes and private altars for guests to visit, it is an amazing experience. Sunday is Palm Sunday and it is a day filled with parades, processions and pageantry, not to be missed. There is much to do in San Miguel from cooking classes and incredible home tours to artist studio tours. There are delicious restaurants galore and art galleries showing a variety of artwork. San Miguel is an art haven where the colonial charm of this historic town is overflowing. |
